Sylvie cons Madeline out of France in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 3 Episode 3

Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and Madeline (Kate Walsh) have been at each other’s necks since season 2 of Emily in Paris. But Sylvie finally gets the upper hand in “Coo D’êtat,” which translates to “strike against the state.”

After running into some trouble with a neighbor at her apartment building, Sylvie must find a new location to conduct her business. After hearing Luc (Bruno Gouery) discuss the building manager of Savoir’s offices, Sylvie gets the bright idea to con the company out of their own rental space.

Relying on the crush building manager Henri has on her, Sylvie woos him into helping her nudge the Americans out of the building. Henri promises to treat them “like pests,” which involves neglecting the elevator repairs, cranking up the heat, and infesting the office space with a flock of pigeons.

In the end, after tanking a meeting with Gilbert Group Corporate, Madeline decides she wants to break the lease. As soon as she and Emily pack up to work from her five-star hotel, Sylvie movies Agence Grateau into the space.

Alfie helps relight Gabriel and Camille’s spark

Now that Alfie’s relationship with Emily is seemingly in tact — she’s basically living in his hotel room — he notices the spark between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Camille (Camille Razat) has dulled. Gabriel’s restaurant has never been busier, which is great for business but has him so wrapped up in work, he has started neglecting his relationship with Camille.

Leave it to Alfie, who suggests Gabriel romance Camille where it’s convenient for him. After all, the last thing Gabriel wants to do at the end of a long day is go to another restaurant. Instead, he decides to stay in the very place that’s taking him away from Camille. The two share a romantic dinner in Les Deux Compères, which is only briefly interrupted by Emily and Alfie.

Emily Cooper makes a stand in ‘Coo D’êtat’ episode of ‘Emily in Paris’

Madeline has tried her best to make things work in Paris. But after failing to find a French replacement for Sylvie, the Gilbert Group decides to suspend operations in France. So, Madeline books a flight back to Chicago and gets Emily a ticket, too. Upon their return, the dynamic duo can fill corporate in on Savoir’s insubordination and sweetheart deals.

But that’s not what Emily wants. Finally, in episode 3, Emily stands up for herself. “No, I’m not going back to Chicago,” she tells Madeline. “I quit. I’m running toward the life I want, and that’s here in Paris.”

Shockingly, Madeline’s nice about Emily’s decision. Perhaps it’s because she sees so much of herself in the young go-getter. Regardless, now Emily must grovel to earn a position with her old pals at Agence Grateau.

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 3 Episode 2 Recap: What’s It All About, Alfie?

Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) is very bad at making decisions. It’s what drives her narrative in the Darren Star Netflix series. Despite stretching herself thin trying to please Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and Madeline (Kate Walsh), Emily never loses her charm. And that’s part of the appeal of Emily in Paris. And with that, we bring you our recap of “What’s It All About…”

Mindy delivers a sick burn in “What’s It All About…”

Emily’s Paris bestie Mindy‘s (Ashley Park) narrative takes a back seat for the most part, but the character is always good for grounding Emily. An aspiring singer, Mindy fills Emily in on the jazz club gig she turned down because she didn’t want to leave her busking buddies behind. “I don’t want to work in two places at once,” Mindy tells her double-dipping friend — a sick burn for audiences, but a truth Emily must come to terms with in episode 2.

Emily gets karmic payback in episode 2

In addition to the incredible bit of advice Mindy serves up, Emily learns Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and her friends have been keeping her in the dark. Her French class paramour left for London in the first episode of season 3, but he’s back in Paris working a new job in episode 2. Antoine (William Abadie) appoints him the new CFO of Maison Lavaux, which Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Camille (Camille Razat) were privy to, but not Emily.

“You’ve kept things from me before, didn’t you?” Camille tells Emily when she confronts her about withholding the truth. Slay, Camille, slay.

Later at an amicable but awkward dinner, Alfie says he connected with Antoine at the going away dinner Emily missed. He admittedly hid the news from Emily because he felt like they weren’t on the same page, nor did Alfie want Emily to think he was returning to Paris for her.

“I put myself out there and you left me hanging,” Alfie says. Come on, Cooper.

Sylvie’s new company loses their biggest client

Perhaps the most important thing to mention in this recap is the battle between Sylvie and Madeline, who both want the biggest and best clients in Emily in Paris Season 3. After realizing she won’t be able to find a president to fill Sylvie’s position that isn’t Sylvie, Madeline agrees to offer her the job back during a Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet) event.

Madeline grovels, says she took for granted what Sylvie brought to the company, and ultimately asks her back as the president of Savoir. Sylvie, the queen of petty, tells Madeline she doesn’t fit at an American company, much like Madeline doesn’t fit into the French designer she’s wearing. This is the ultimate faux pas, though, because Pierre announces his brand has been acquired by the family-owned conglomerate JVMA. Since they handle all of their marketing in house, Sylvie and her micro-firm are out their one and only client.

Following this bombshell, Sylvie meets with Nicolas de Leon (Paul Forman), who offers her and her team a job with JVMA. But as Luc (Bruno Gouery) reminds Sylvie, “it’s not easy starting a new business.” She declines the JVMA offer to pursue other luxury clients on her own.

Dionne Warwick’s ‘Alfie’ saves Emily’s shot at love

We can’t get through this recap without mentioning singing legend Dionne Warwick for whom the Emily in Paris episode was named. Only a grand gesture can save what’s left of the romance between Emily and Alfie and she gives him just that by performing “Alfie” amid Mindy’s set at the Fête de la Musique.

Regardless of how corny it is, Emily’s gesture works. But how long will it be before she disappoints Alfie again?

Darren Star’s Netflix series Emily in Paris returns with season 3 on Dec. 21. The premiere episode has no shortage of Parisian fashion, sights, and drama. Here’s a refresher regarding where we left Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) at the end of Emily in Paris Season 2 and our recap of the first episode of season 3, “J’ai Deux Amours (I Have Two Lovers).”

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 2 finale recap

Emily’s workaholic nature remains true throughout the second season of the Netflix series. She has finally been accepted by her Savoir colleagues and strengthens her friendships with Mindy (Ashley Park), Camille (Camille Razat), and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) throughout the season. She also finds romance with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).

At the end of Emily in Paris Season 2, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) decides to leave Savoir to launch her own company, taking some of her biggest clients in her exit. Sylvie asks Emily to join her, but Emily’s boss from Chicago, Madeline (Kate Walsh), prevents her from giving Sylvie an emphatic and resounding “Yes.”

Season 2 concludes with Emily feeling torn. On the one hand, staying with Madeline means taking a step back in her career. On the other hand, siding with Sylvie means stabbing her mentor in the back, which would leave Emily feeling guilty.

Emily is still searching for her identity in season 3 episode 1

The first episode of Emily in Paris Season 3 is aptly named, but not because Emily is in love with Alfie and Gabriel. It’s because she’s trying to balance two jobs.

The decision of who to work for weighs heavily on Emily in the season 3 premiere of Emily in Paris. The episode opens with a nightmare in which Sylvie and Madeline fight over Emily atop the Eiffel Tower and ultimately cause Emily to plummet to the bottom.

This pressure haunts Emily in the episode. Instead of making a decision, Emily gives in to her most prominent character flaw — her inability to decide. Emily wants to stay in Paris and see where a career with Sylvie will take her. However, she chooses to lie to Madeline and Sylvie and ~~double-dip~~ stretch herself thin, working for both women simultaneously.

Since this is Emily in Paris, her plan doesn’t work out. Season 3 Episode 1 concludes with Madeline interrupting Sylvie and Emily’s sit-down with the executives at McDonald’s regarding their McBaguette campaign.

This is when things take a turn for Emily. After Madeline’s water breaks, Emily tries to accompany her to the hospital. However, feeling crossed by her employee, Madeline denies the help. Then, Sylvie confronts Emily’s decision to work for her and Madeline simultaneously, calling the decision “so American” and firing her to make the decision easier.

Emily’s romance with Alfie hits a speed bump, too

Amid the McDonald’s meeting chaos, Emily misses Alfie’s going away party, which is taking place at Gabriel’s restaurant. He’s returning to London, so Emily wanted to see him off. But as the kind of woman who always places work above pleasure, she misses the gathering.

Alfie is one of the only people to call Emily on her poor friendship skills. At the end of “I Have Two Lovers,” Alfie tells her: “I know your career means a lot to you; I just didn’t realize it meant more than us.”

Emily’s inability to decide when she’ll go to London to see him causes another rift in her life. In the end, Alfie throws the lesson about Jean-Paul Sartre from their French class in Emily’s face — “not choosing is still a choice.”

‘Emily in Paris’ Season 2 Recap: 6 Things to Remember Before Season 3

Emily in Paris Season 3 arrives on Netflix tomorrow, bringing the titular American expat back to the City of Lights. It looks like the season has lots of changes in store for Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), including a new haircut. But what led up to this point in Emily’s Parisian life? Before you dive into season 3, refresh your memory with this quick recap of Emily in Paris Season 2.

Camille finds out about Emily and Gabriel’s night together

At the end of season 1, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) was supposed to move back to Normandy, so he and Camille (Camille Razat) broke up. The newly single Gabriel then hooked up with Emily, only to reveal the next day that he wasn’t going anywhere.

The start of season 2 shows Emily carrying a lot of guilt for sleeping with Gabriel behind Camille’s back. However, she keeps it a secret — until Camille finds out herself. The truth comes out at Emily’s birthday party, and Camille ends her friendship with Emily. Feeling even worse, Emily tries everything to win Camille back, even ignoring Gabriel. Eventually, Camille forgives Emily, but only if Emily agrees that neither she nor Camille will try to date Gabriel again. We’ll revisit that agreement later…

Emily has a new boyfriend, Alfie, in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 2

As if her love life isn’t complicated enough, Emily finds herself falling for a new man in season 2. She starts the season off with Mathieu Cadault (Charles Martins), but he abandons their romantic weekend getaway in Saint-Tropez when he finds out about her and Gabriel. Later, Emily meets Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), a cynical, London-born banker who attends the same French class as Emily.

Unlike Emily, Alfie doesn’t see the beauty of Paris. The polar opposite classmates start out as frenemies, but Alfie’s perspective changes as he spends more time with Emily. They begin dating, which leaves Camille to spend more time with Gabriel. Alfie meets Gabriel and they start a bromance, which makes things awkward for Emily.

Alfie eventually discovers the truth about Emily and Gabriel’s will-they-won’t-they relationship. Thankfully, it doesn’t affect his own relationship with Emily.

Mindy pursues music and finds love

Elsewhere in season 2, Mindy (Ashley Park) dips her toes into the music world by joining a band with two buskers, Benoit (Kevin Dias) and Etienne (Jin Xuan Mao). Along the way, she and Benoit develop feelings for each other. However, Etienne and Benoit don’t know about her billionaire father in China and her viral performance on Chinese Popstar.

The truth comes out when Etienne shows a photo of Mindy to his family in China. He learns of her identity as the daughter of the Zipper King of China and passes that information to his journalist cousin. The news then gets leaked to tabloids and social media.

Mindy and Benoit break up as Benoit struggles to accept that Mindy lied. However, they later share a sweet performance and get back together. Fans will likely see more of their duets in season 3.

Sylvie, Julien, and Luc quit Savoir in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 2

It’s a clash of cultures when Emily’s boss, Madeline (Kate Walsh), visits Paris to check in on Savoir. She butts heads more than once with Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), as the two don’t agree on business practices. Madeline often questions Sylvie about how little some Savoir clients are paying for their services. She also makes a bold move in trying to bring Gregory (Jeremy O. Harris) on as a new client, despite Sylvie’s warning that he is an enemy of Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet), Savoir’s biggest client.

All of this leads Sylvie to quit Savoir in the finale with plans to open her own firm. She takes Luc (Bruno Gouery) and Julien (Samuel Arnold) with her, as well as half of Savoir’s clients. The news comes as a surprise to Emily, who had no idea that Sylvie wanted to quit.

Camille moves in with Gabriel

Remember that agreement between Camille and Emily? Well, Camille doesn’t keep her end of the deal. With Emily out of the way, Camille starts to rekindle her romance with Gabriel. And as much as Emily tries to ignore her own feelings for Gabriel, she ends up admitting to Mindy that she loves him. Mindy encourages Emily to tell Gabriel how she feels, and she works up the courage to go see him. However, when Emily arrives at his apartment, she finds Camille moving in — Gabriel is officially back with his ex.

Emily is at a crossroads at the end of Emily in Paris Season 2, which brings us to the most important part of the recap: the cliffhangers. First, there are romantic decisions she needs to make. Alfie gets called back to work in London, and he suggests trying a long-distance relationship. But what about Emily’s feelings for Gabriel? Her almost-confession of love will no doubt complicate things even more.

Then, there’s a decision she needs to make about her career. Sylvie offers to let Emily work for her new firm, allowing her to stay in Paris. However, Madeline makes a counteroffer. Emily can continue working for The Gilbert Group and maybe get a promotion, but she’ll need to move back to Chicago.

Fans will find out tomorrow which path she chooses. Given the very name of the show, though, it seems like a safe bet that Emily will stay in Paris.

Tyler is the Hyde, Marilyn Thornhill is the master

Did we or did we not suspect Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci)?! There were several signs in Wednesday Episode 7 alluding to Thornhill being a relative of Garett Gates, but episode 8 confirms it.

As a Normie family who lost a son and brother to the hands of a Nevermore student, Thornhill sought vengeance. She made it her mission to bring Joseph Crackstone’s vision — a world free of outcasts — to life. But first, she needed to bring him back from the dead.

That’s where Tyler (Hunter Doohan) came in. Thornhill manipulated Tyler into doing her bidding using his mother’s troubled past as an outcast and Hyde. Once she unleashed his inner Hyde with a plant-derived chemical, she was in control and could have him kill Jericho residents and Nevermore students at her leisure. Then, Thornhill was able to collect the body parts she needs to complete her mission.

Why did Marilyn Thornhill need body parts in ‘Wednesday’?

All of the bodies of the monster’s victims were missing a body part. That’s because once Tyler the Hyde was done killing them, Thornhill was surgically removing limbs for her plot to bring Joseph Crackstone back from the dead.

As revealed in the finale of Wednesday, the Gates Family are descendants of Joseph Crackstone, the pilgrim who wished to rid the world of Goody Addams and outcasts like her. Using the body parts she collected, Thornhill could sacrifice Wednesday and bring Crackstone back from beyond the grave.

When it seemed like Wednesday is going to die on the stones of the Crackstone Crypt, her ancestor Goody Addams showed up to save her. Together, they faced off against the zombie pilgrim version of Joseph Crackstone on the grounds of Nevermore.

Just as the prophecy foretold, Wednesday wasn’t a danger to Nevermore — she’s what would save it from the fire Joseph Crackstone wanted to rain on all outcasts. With an assist from Bianca (Sunday Joy), Wednesday stopped Joseph once and for all. Much like Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) in the final Harry Potter movie, Joseph Crackstone turned to dust in defeat.

That leaves one problem — Thornhill. This time, Eugene (Moosa Mostafa) steps in to save the day with his bees, who bring Thornhill down so Wednesday can deliver a satisfying kick to the face.

Tyler the Hyde survives the ‘Wednesday’ finale

While Wednesday and company were battling Joseph Crackstone on the school grounds, Enid (Emma Myers) finally wolfed out in the woods to battle the Hyde. With help from Sheriff Galpin (Jamie McShane), who shot the Hyde to stop it, evil has finally been put in its place.

However, as the end of Wednesday Episode 8 reveals, Tyler is still alive. He’s in psychiatric custody, but his inner Hyde is still pushing to come out.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 8 drops several hints about a season 2

While Netflix has yet to confirm Wednesday Season 2, the conclusion to the first season sets the show up to be continued. For example, Wednesday finishes her novel after she solves the case, concluding her book with “The End?” Moreover, Bianca hints about getting the fencing title “next year,” and Xavier (Percy Hynes White) also asks if Wednesday will be back.

The biggest setup for a possible second season is the text Wednesday receives on the cell phone Xavier gifted her. “I’m watching you,” the text reads accompanied by pictures of Wednesday with Tyler and Xavier. The most disturbing text comes as a gif — it’s Wednesday getting stabbed in the head.

Who is this mystery person? Hopefully, we’ll get to find out in Wednesday Season 2.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 7 Recap: Who and What Has Been Killing People in Jericho

Xavier becomes suspect number one again in ‘Wednesday’ Episode 7

After noticing scratches on his neck and the drawings he produced in the fourth episode of Wednesday, Xavier (Percy Hynes White) becomes Wednesday’s number one suspect once again in this episode. With some help from Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), Wednesday tracks Xavier and witnesses their suspicious meet-up with Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome) in the woods. Could she have something to do with the monster?

The monster in ‘Wednesday’ is a Hyde

Thanks to Uncle Fester’s time spent in the Nightshade Library waiting for Gomez and Morticia to … well, you know — the well-read Addams Family member explains that the monster is a Hyde. As detailed in Nathaniel Faulkner’s journal, a Hyde is “born of mutation” and “lays dormant until unleashed by a traumatic event or unlocked through the chemical inducement of hypnosis.”

Once the Hyde is released, whoever let it out becomes its master. Based on what she witnessed in the woods, Wednesday further suspects Xavier to be the Hyde and Dr. Kinbott to be his master.

Dr. Kinbott gets killed by the Hyde in episode 7 of ‘Wednesday’

Wednesday Episode 7 delivers another curveball in the monster story. Believing Xavier to be the Hyde and Dr. Kinbott it’s master and Laurel Gates, the sister of Garett Gates, Wednesday confronts the therapist. Shortly after Kinbott kicks Wednesday out of her office, the Hyde attacks and kills her. This leaves Wednesday wondering if Kinbott lost control of the Hyde or she was wrong about her altogether.

Tyler is revealed to be the Hyde in ‘Wednesday’ Episode 7

Still believing Xavier to be the monster, Wednesday’s suspicions are solidified when she finds evidence of mementos from each victim in his art studio shed. Sheriff Galpin (Jamie McShane) arrests Xavier, but he’s not the problem Wednesday thought he was.

Shortly after her seemingly sweet date with Tyler (Hunter Doohan) in the Crackstone Crypt complete with a showing of Legally Blonde, the two share a kiss. When they do, Wednesday has another vision — one that changes everything.

In glimpses of flashbacks, Wednesday sees the blood and gore of the monster’s victims. Tyler isn’t the sweet Normie boy Wednesday mistook him for. He’s the Hyde that has been killing the people of Jericho.

Wednesday has been hinting at Tyler’s dark past, including his mother’s medical diagnosis and time at Nevermore as an outcast student. However, it isn’t until episode 7 that his truth is revealed. Now that we know who the Hyde is, only one question remains. Who is the person controlling it?

‘Fire Will Rain’ is a connection to Joseph Crackstone

At this point, we know Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), Jericho’s founder and all-around bad guy, hated outcasts like Goody Addams. At the end of Wednesday Episode 5, someone burns “Fire Will Rain” into the grounds of Nevermore Academy. Episode 6 reveals those words share a connection with Crackstone.

Believing she’ll find more answers about the monster, Wednesday goes to the Crackstone Crypt begrudgingly. Little does she know it’s for an impromptu birthday celebration. While she despises the gathering, Wednesday encounters another clue while inside. Inscribed in Latin on the wall are the same words that were burned into the school grounds: “Fire Will Rain.” Wednesday still isn’t sure what that means at this point, but Goody shows her the way in a vision.

Is Laurel Gates the monster in ‘Wednesday’?

The monster killing people in Jericho was hiding out in a cave previously. Now, it’s new home is the Gates’ Mansion, the former home of Garett and his family. As we see in Wednesday Episode 5, Garett Gates (Lewis Hayes) was killed by a young Morticia Addams.

After his death, both of Garett’s parents died and his sister, Laurel, is presumed dead, too. However, episode 6 of Wednesday hints at Laurel still being alive. That idea becomes even clearer when Mayor Noble Walker (Tommie Earl Jenkins) gets hit by an unknown person in a car. Leave it to Wednesday Addams‘ detective skills to find that very car in the garage of the Gates Mansion.

Someone — or something — has been using the mansion as a hideout, as evidenced by the freshly blown out candles surrounding the creepy altar to Joseph Crackstone. Could Laurel Gates still be alive and the one behind the murders in Jericho?

Professor Thornhill might have a connection to the Gates Family and the monster

Wednesday Episode 6 does its best to point the finger at Laurel Gates, who we have yet to officially meet. However, a few other details in this episode hint at another character being Wednesday‘s big bad.

We haven’t seen much of Professor Thornhill (Christina Ricci) in the Netflix series, but she pays a lot of attention to Wednesday in this episode. After learning Wednesday saw the mayor get hit by a car, Thornhill gifts her with a copy of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. That’s a weird gift for a botany teacher to gift a student, especially when there’s a monster going around killing people and collecting their body parts a la Dr. Frankenstein.

As if the book weren’t weird enough, Wednesday takes note of the fresh roses in Laurel’s bedroom at the Gates’ Mansion. Could Thornhill have a connection to the Gates Family, or perhaps even be part of it?

Gomez (Luis Guzmán), Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), and even Lurch (George Burcea) pay Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) a visit, during which they uncover several truths that make this Netflix mystery clearer.

Does Eugene Otinger die in ‘Wednesday’ on Netflix?

Eugene Otinger (Moosa Mostafa) becomes another one of the monster’s victims in Wednesday Episode 4. However, episode 5 reveals that Eugene is alive and in a coma in the hospital.

Wednesday claims she doesn’t have friends, but visiting Eugene becomes part of her daily routine. After all, she was supposed to be with him that night when he got attacked.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 5 explains Garett Gates’ death

Outside of Wednesday’s work to uncover who or what the monster is that’s killing people in Jericho, she’s curious about her parent’s past at Nevermore. Morticia and Gomez met and fell in love there, but they were also part of a student’s grisly death. It’s not until episode 5 of Wednesday that we get the full story — and then the truth — about what happened to Garett Gates (Lewis Hayes).

When Morticia was attending Nevermore, Garett developed an obsession with her to the point where he would stalk her. Believing Morticia was in danger and wanting to protect her, Gomez intervened the night of the Rave’n Dance in 1990.

After the coroner, who conveniently “blew his brains out” in Wednesday Episode 4, admitted to fudging Garett’s autopsy, Gomez is arrested. While in prison, he tells Wednesday he’s to blame for Garett’s death. But in reality, Morticia killed Garett. As she reveals to Wednesday in The Nightshade’s meeting library, she stabbed Garett with the sword that night — Gomez took the blame to protect her.

Garett Gates’ grave proves Gomez Addams’ innocence

Like any morbidly curious mother daughter duo, Morticia and Wednesday bridge the gap in their relationship and go grave digging together in episode 5. When they dig up Garett’s coffin, I admittedly thought they’d find it empty, proving he’s the monster killing people. But alas, his rotted corpse was there and mostly in tact.

That is, until Wednesday pulled one of his fingers off. After hearing Morticia’s recount of Garett’s death, Wednesday doesn’t think Garett was acting out of rage at all. “Foaming saliva, dilated pupils, mental confusion — what are those all textbook symptoms of?” she asks her mother.

The answer is Nightshade poisoning. Garett’s cold, blue finger proves it.

Ansel Gates was blinded by his hatred for outcasts and Garett suffered the consequences

As revealed in another detailed vision Wednesday has in episode 5, Ansel Gates (Philip Rosch) despised the outcasts who attended Nevermore. He was likely more than repulsed when he discovered his son was infatuated with one of them.

Wanting to rid the world of outcasts like someone else in Wednesday — ahem, Joseph Crackstone, ahem — Ansel has Garett sneak into the Rave’n Dance to poison the punch bowl with Nightshade. Except Ansel never makes it to the punch bowl because the vial breaks and the Nightshade seeps into his skin, causing him to go into a frenzied rage.

The Nightshade is what sparked his attack on Gomez. It’s also what lead to Garett’s death.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 5 also confirms Rowan is dead

Like, dead dead. When Rowan (Callum Ross) shows up in Wednesday Episode 2, it wasn’t Rowan shapeshifting at all. It was Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) pretending to be Rowan and throw Wednesday off the scent, but off the scent of what?

Netflix‘s Wednesday Episode 4 gives Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) even more information regarding the monster killing Jericho residents. But just when Wednesday thinks she has pinpointed who the monster really is, there’s another twist in the case and worse, another attack.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 4 reveals the monster’s victims are connected

Wednesday’s not only trying to find herself in this series — she’s trying to solve a mystery. There’s a monster plaguing Jericho and Wednesday wants to know why.

Strangely enough, the monster prevented Rowan (Calum Ross) from killing Wednesday in the first episode of the series. But ever since, it’s been gutting Jericho residents like it has something to prove.

At the end of Wednesday Episode 2, the man squatting in what used to be Joseph Crackstone’s meeting house becomes the monster’s next victim. When Wednesday goes to the morgue to investigate, she discovers the body is missing a left foot.

With a little help from Thing, who procured the files of the previous victims, Wednesday pieces together what all of the victims have in common — each is missing a body part. From a foot to a kidney, fingers, and toes, the bodies this monster goes after all have a part surgically removed.

As our woefully intelligent protagonist pointed out in Wednesday Episode 3, the monster is part human. Could this be part of some kind of experiment the human version of the monster is conducting?

Xavier becomes a prime suspect in Wednesday’s monster investigation

Episode 4 of Wednesday explains how Xavier (Percy Hynes White) got the scratches that appear on his neck. The episode also reveals the drawings of the monster Xavier has been keeping locked away in his secret studio.

As Wednesday dives deeper into her investigation, Xavier seems like suspect number one. He knows exactly what the monster looks like — how else could he know those details if he’s not the monster himself, or at the very least close to it?

Wednesday takes it upon herself to investigate a mysterious cave from one of Xavier’s drawings — it appears to be the monster’s dwelling. There, she finds a claw, which will be useful in providing Sheriff Galpin (Jamie McShane) with more “concrete” evidence as to who the monster is.

Armed with the claw and a rag made bloody by Xavier’s neck wounds, Wednesday seems ready to take down this ~~monster~~ Xavier once and for all. But when he reveals how he really got the wounds, Wednesday’s melancholy tune changes.

Xavier Thorpe probably isn’t the monster

As explained in Wednesday Episode 4, Xavier has been having nightmares about the monster plaguing Jericho. So, being the artist that he is, he decided to draw the creature.

Thanks to his ability to create art that comes to life, Xavier’s neck wounds are a result of one of his drawings reaching out and scratching him. While this doesn’t totally eliminate Xavier from Wednesday’s lists of suspects, it does make a pretty compelling case.

Eugene Otinger is the monster’s next victim in ‘Wednesday’ Episode 4

Eugene Otinger (Moosa Mostafa) has been Wednesday’s school version of Pugsley. The bee-keeping Nevermore student becomes Wednesday’s companion in her monster investigation, but at the end of episode 4, it’s Eugene who gets attacked by the very thing they’re seeking out.

‘Wednesday’ Episode 3 Recap: Wednesday’s Ancestor and the Monster Plaguing Jericho Are Revelaed

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) is getting closer to uncovering her mysterious fate. Episode 3 of the Netflix series provides clarity on a few things, including Wednesday’s connection to the Crackstone Crypt. We also get another look at the mysterious monster plaguing the town of Jericho in this episode. Here’s what it all means.

Who kidnaps Wednesday Addams?

Episode 2 of Wednesday ends with a mysterious person covering Wednesday’s head and kidnapping her. As revealed in episode 3, her captors are current members of The Nightshades, the old student society Ms. Thornhill (Christina Ricci) described in the episode prior.

Nowadays, The Nightshades is made up of current Nevermore students including the likes of Bianca (Joy Sunday), Xavier (Percy Hynes White), and former member Rowan. Surprised to find the group still active, Wednesday learns The Nightshades “fizzled 30 years ago after some Normie kid died,” but they’ve since restarted the chapter.

Wednesday is the key to the Crackstone Crypt

Thanks to her vision from episode 2, Wednesday knows she is “the key” to the Crackstone Crypt. That meant very little to her until Outreach Day in episode 3, an event where Nevermore students volunteer at the businesses in Jericho.

Per the picture Rowan ripped from an ancient text in the hidden Edgar Allan Poe library, Wednesday is squared up with a pilgrim. In episode 3, she discovers that pilgrim is Joseph Crackstone, the town’s founder.

Wednesday uses Outreach Day to investigate Pilgrim World, which is basically a shrine to Joseph, for answers. There, she finds a picture of the young girl from her vision — the ethereal version of Wednesday — but not much else. Only when Wednesday goes to the real location of the former meetinghouse does she uncover the truth.

Goody Addams is a witch and Wednesday’s ancestor

Jericho might participate in Outreach Day annually, but historically the town has been exclusionary toward outcasts since Wednesday’s ancestor Goody Addams was a resident. After pressing Tyler (Hunter Doohan) for information about the meeting house, Wednesday has another vision.

The girl from the picture is Goody Addams, a relative of Wednesday’s who was exiled by the community of pilgrims that once inhabited Jericho. Joseph Crackstone ordered Goody to be burned at the stake, wanting to rid the world of outcasts. But before he got to Goody, Joseph burned the meeting house down with Goody’s family and other outcasts inside.

Wednesday’s vision ends with a warning from Goody: “He won’t stop until he’s killed us all.”

What is the monster eating people in ‘Wednesday’?

Despite the solid glimpse of the monster Wednesday Episode 3 gives us (which you can see at 1:05 in the trailer below), it’s still not clear what kind of creature it is. “The monster is human,” Wednesday points out in the episode. “It’s tracks turn from monster to human.”

We previously described this monster as having the body of a werewolf and the head of a fly. Based on the image captured at the end of Wednesday Episode 3, we would like to amend that description. This thing appears to have the head of a fish, or perhaps a merperson — could it be of siren descent?

Regardless, Wednesday Episode 3 revealed two things: Whatever is killing Jericho residents is likely a descendant of multiple outcasts and Joseph Crackstone is the real monster.
